New Year, New Career Contest Sponsors

Big thanks and props to the sponsors of our New Year, New Career contest sponsors. We chose the best-of-the-best:

Tanya Smith of www.bepromotable.com

Marketing yourself is often one of the toughest parts of managing your career.  A common statement made by job seekers is “I don’t know what to say” or “it’s too hard to talk about myself.”  That’s why it’s important to work with someone who has been there and can speak from experience as a tried and true introvert on how to gain more confidence and speak powerfully about what you do.

If you are looking for a proven professional who can guide you to address things that get in the way of your success – limited promotional opportunities, inability to communicate your outstanding value, and lack-luster business relationships, you’ve come to the right place.

    Good Day,
After many years, twenty years of owning and operating an amazing transportation service for children I now find myself back on the job market without a resume. Surely, I was not expecting this whiplash leap back into the workforce it has caught me off guard, yet I must put on my big girl panties on get on a mission to get my dollar earnings back together in order to keep a roof over my senior citizen, AARP head and food on the table. A new, refreshed resume and cover letter, and career coaching assistance would be just the needed boost at this particular time in my working career.

I will look forward to receiving your special input.
    Thank you. Enjoy your day.

Who would want to hire me? That is a question I have asked myself often for years. I have been an at home mother with half of an Undergraduate degree in Business for 14 years. However, for over a year, I have been working on completing my degree at night and on the weekends. One year from now I will have my degree (B.B. A with a minor in Org Mgmt). As I chop away at the obstacles in my way to get closer to my dream job, I have begun to seek out internships. Still no luck. I can’t change the fact that I am in my late 40′s with elementary children. When most everyone I know is looking at becoming a grandparent, I feel I still have 20 good years of work ahead of me. I want to work outside of my home, I would then have something for me other than taking care of my husband and children, however, I still plan on doing that too.
Another difficult obstacle I also face is that most people say, WHY do you want to work, what are you crazy?! Stay home, raise your family and take it easy. Ugh… with this type of mentality surrounding me, I am on the fast track to nowhere. Therein lies yet another obstacle, being an at home mother has lent itself to contributing to my lack of current formal work experience. I feel the only experience that I have acquired with my at home status is the stereotyping attitude that I am a party planner, babysitter, and housekeeper, etc. Yet, I see myself as so much more, how do I convey that to others, my husband, children, family and most importantly a company?
I am not a late bloomer as you might think, everything I have achieved has been on my own without anyone’s help, and that goes as far back as I can remember. I am determined, forthright and I am strong in my quest. I know there are many people who could benefit from your collective expertise and even if you don’t pick me, I am glad that there are people like you who have come together to offer assistance to people like me.
    Kind regards,
    Angie C.

Although I had held various positions, the one position that I so desperately wanted had not been created. That was Manager of Small Business. I submitted proposal after proposal to manager after manager but to no avail. When HQ finally decided to create the position, I had just been reassigned to a new position. That was 4 years ago. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Small Business Development and how much I thoroughly enjoyed servicing the community. I obtained a satisfaction that I had never achieved before in any position. Now I am in search of a career that would allow me to share business knowledge, skills and experiences for the development of future generations. Please help me get out of this rut. I need a professional to review my current resume, assist me with interviewing and provide mentoring. I want to make a difference in society by sharing, training and developing others so that they may be successful and achieve their dreams. Thank you so very much for the New Year, New Career Contest. It is has awakened me from dormancy and complacency.
